Mushroom Mutter Masala Or Mushroom and Green Peas Curry is mouthwatering North Indian dish served as a side with Roti/Chapati/Naan and can also be relished with Rice. Its basically mushroom and peas cooked in a spicy and tangy onion tomato gravy and flavored with Indian spices.

You can make this dish as a curry or dry Sabji by adjusting the water consistency. My hubby loves to have this with rice so I usually make this like a curry.

Now to the Recipe...

Ingredients:
3 cups sliced Mushrooms
1 cup of green peas
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 medium sized onion finely chopped
2 medium sized tomatoes finely chopped
1 teaspoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon green chilli paste
1 tablespoon tomato paste
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ to 1 teaspoon red chili powder (or to taste)
1 tablespoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon cumin seeds powder
¼ teaspoon dry mango powder (amchur)
¼ teaspoon garam masala (or to taste)
1-2 tablespoon oil
salt to taste
Some finely chopped coriander leaves

Method:

In a vessel heat some oil & once hot add the cumin seeds, once they start spluttering add the onions and saute until translucent and light brown. Then add the ginger garlic and green chilli paste and saute till raw garlic smell disappears. Then add tomatoes, salt and turmeric powder. Mix well and cover and cook for 5 mins or until the tomatoes are nice and soft.

Then add the red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin seeds powder, amchur and mix. Cook till this mixture starts oozing oil from the side. Then add the tomato paste and green peas and mix. Cover and cook for 5 mins.

Now add the mushrooms, mix well and add about 1 cup of water. Cover and cook till mushrooms and peas are done about 10-12 mins. Finally add the garam masala and coriander leaves and mix.

Note:

  • Mushrooms have a tendency to shrink and leave some moisture after they are partially cooked so wait till the mushrooms are cooked half way through before adding water.
  • Am using Frozen peas but you can use fresh too if available. Cooking time may vary depending on whether you are using frozen or fresh peas.
  • If you would like to eat this dish like a dry sabji add less or no water depending on the consistency you like

That's it our Mushroom Mutter Masala- Mushroom and Peas Curry is ready. Serve it hot with some freshly made Naan/Roti/Chapati or any Indian bread of your choice. Enjoy!!

Happy Cooking!!
