About Nutella Shake
A Nutella milkshake is a rich, creamy, and indulgent drink made by blending just three ingredients: Nutella (a chocolate-hazelnut spread), milk, and ice cream.
It's perfect as a quick dessert, a fun party drink, or a sweet way to cool down on a hot summer day.
If you are a Nutella lover, you are in for a treat for sure!! This Nutella shake recipe is luscious, creamy, and irresistible!
For those new to Nutella, it is a popular creamy chocolate-hazelnut spread. It combines roasted hazelnuts, cocoa, sugar, and milk into a smooth, sweet spread.
Nutella's rich, nutty flavor and silky texture make it a favorite for both kids and adults worldwide. I haven't met anyone who can resist scooping a spoonful of Nutella straight from the jar. It's just that delicious! Now imagine that deliciousness being combined with ice cream! Yum!
This easy Nutella milkshake recipe is a simple yet customizable treat. You can adjust the sweetness, swap dairy for plant-based alternatives, use frozen yogurt instead of ice cream, or add your own twist with extras like bananas, espresso, peanut butter, or cookies.
You can keep this delicious milkshake recipe simple with three ingredients or get creative with toppings like whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, crushed hazelnuts, or even a scoop of Nutella on top!
Why You'll Love This Milkshake
- Quick & Easy: Just 5 minutes and 3 ingredients needed.
- Creamy & Indulgent: Thick, chocolatey, and decadent.
- Kid-Friendly Treat: Loved by kids and adults alike.
- Versatile: Enjoy as a dessert, snack, or party drink.
- Customizable: Add bananas, ice cream, or a shot of espresso for a twist!
Recipe Ingredients

Nutella: This sweetened hazelnut cocoa spread is the star ingredient of this recipe! If you don't have Nutella available where you live, use your favorite chocolate hazelnut spread instead.
Ice cream: Use ice cream or frozen yogurt for this recipe. I have used vanilla ice cream, but chocolate or a combination of vanilla and chocolate ice cream can also be used.
Milk: It helps adjust the consistency so it's pourable. If you prefer a thicker consistency, you can skip the milk. I prefer whole milk, but 2%, skim milk, or even almond milk can be used.

How to Make Nutella Milkshake (Stepwise Photos)
The first step is to chill your serving glasses in the freezer for at least 10 minutes. If possible, cool your blender jar as well; it helps keep the shake cold and creamy.

1 to 2: Add all the ingredients to the blender, starting with the vanilla ice cream, then the chocolate hazelnut spread, and finally the milk. Add Nutella on top of the ice cream to prevent it from sticking to the blender jar.
3 to 4: Blend (about 20-30 seconds) until everything is well combined and frothy!
Creamy and delicious Nutella Milkshake is ready. Serve immediately!! Enjoy!!

Serving Suggestions
My preferred way to serve this Nutella shake is in a tall glass, topped with a dollop of ice cream and a drizzle of Nutella. You can also use whipped cream as a substitute for ice cream.
Feeling fancy? For a cafe or restaurant-style Nutella milkshake, freeze the glass for a few minutes, then decorate it by drizzling some Nutella over the top before pouring in the milkshake.
Flavor Variations
These are a few of our favorite variations, but feel free to experiment! You can hardly go wrong with nutella and ice cream!!
- Banana Nutella Milkshake: Add a ripe banana to the recipe
- Strawberry Nutella Milkshake: Include fresh or frozen strawberries.
- Oreo Nutella Milkshake: Add 3-4 Oreo cookies to the recipe
- Peanut butter Nutella milkshake: Add 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter to the recipe.
- Nutella protein shake: Add a scoop of protein powder to the recipe.
- Vegan Nutella Milkshake: Use dairy-free Nutella, plant-based ice cream, and almond or oat milk.
Recipe Tips
For a thicker milkshake: Use chilled milk and full-fat ice cream for richness. Add less milk and avoid using ice cubes if possible, as they can dilute the flavor.
Prevent Nutella from clumping or sticking to the blender: Add the Nutella on top of the ice cream, not at the bottom. Placing it at the bottom causes it to stick under the blender blades, resulting in uneven blending. Also, using a high-powered blender makes it easier to smoothly combine Nutella without leaving stubborn blobs behind.
For a healthy Nutella Milkshake: Skip the ice cream and use frozen bananas instead. Although that changes the taste, and as my kids say, it is no longer a milkshake but more of a Nutella banana milkshake or smoothie. Still delicious!
Adjust sweetness to taste: This milkshake is already sweet due to the sugars in nutella and ice cream, but if you prefer it sweeter, add sugar (to taste) while blending.
Don't Over-Blend: Excessive blending can turn your milkshake into a thin, foamy liquid instead of a thick, creamy one. Blend just until combined, 20 to 30 seconds.
Chill Your Serving Glasses: Place your serving glasses in the freezer for 10-15 minutes before pouring the milkshake. It keeps the shake colder longer and prevents melting on contact.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, replace ice cream with frozen yogurt or frozen bananas for a healthier and delicious Banana Nutella Milkshake.
You can use a hand blender. Alternatively, you can melt the ice cream in a mason jar, then add the milk and Nutella, and shake until everything is combined and frothy. Get in that arm workout!!
Absolutely!! If you have those last bits of Nutella at the bottom of the jar, microwave the milk until it's warm (not hot) and add it to the jar. Screw the cap on tight and shake until the Nutella dissolves. Add this Nutella milk to your milkshake.
