About Tomato Cucumber Sandwich
Tomato Cucumber Sandwich is a simple and delicious vegetarian sandwich that requires no cooking and can be made in 10 minutes.
It typically consists of sliced tomatoes, cucumber, and optional additions like lettuce, cheese, and spreads, sandwiched between slices of bread.
To make tomato cucumber sandwich recipe, the bread is generously slathered with butter before layering the tomato and cucumber and flavoring it with salt and pepper. For this recipe, I also add flavored cream cheese along with butter and chaat masala for more depth of flavor.
These sandwiches are typically served untoasted but you can also toast them for crispy texture.
This tomato and cucumber sandwich is refreshing and light, making it a perfect choice for picnics, quick lunches, snacks, as high tea finger sandwiches, or appetizers, especially during summertime.
It's a healthy, versatile option that can be customized according to personal preferences, making it a favorite among both kids and adults.
Recipe Ingredients
Bread - Use good quality bread. Soft fresh white bread is the most common choice for this sandwich but you can use whole wheat bread, Italian, multigrain, Sourdough bread, Ciabatta, or bread of choice.
Tomatoes - Use the best quality tomatoes here. Summer usually has a great variety so use fresh ripe tomatoes of choice. I have used Roma tomatoes but you can also use beefsteak tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, tomatoes on the vine, or any of your choice.
Cucumber - Use English cucumbers (or hothouse or seedless cucumbers) or Persian cucumbers. These varieties have thinner skin, fewer seeds, and a mild, sweet flavor. You can skip peeling due to their thin skin and the fewer seeds result in a less watery and crisper texture.
Spread - I prefer butter and cream cheese (chive and onion favor) as spread for these sandwiches. You can use just butter too. The cream cheese gives it that extra creamy texture and you can use plain or flavored cream cheese. You can also use mayonnaise or Greek yogurt for a lighter alternative.
Seasonings: Salt, black pepper, and chaat masala. I like to add chaat masala for more flavor. You can skip it too or add dry herbs like Italian seasoning or dry oregano leaves. Add chili flakes for a spicy twist.
