Delicious, nutritious, and refreshing banana nectarine smoothie made with simple and fresh ingredients is the perfect breakfast or mid-afternoon snack.

Smoothies are just the perfect breakfast recipes for a quick, healthy, and delicious way to kick-start your mornings.

They are a great addition to your diet since they help you get a good helping of fruits (and sometimes veggies) into your day giving you that fiber as well as lots of vitamins and minerals.

For today's post, I'm sharing my Nectarine Smoothie recipe which has been a summer favorite. If you like the combination of slightly tart and sweet then you are going to love this smoothie.

It's wonderfully refreshing and full of healthy ingredients to give you energy for the day ahead.

I also like to share one of these smoothies for an afternoon snack to get through that after-lunch slump.

If smoothie are your thing, be sure to check out my Tropical Smoothie and Avocado Banana Smoothie.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Nectarine: Use fresh ripe nectarines (which looks very much like a peach but just with a smoother outer skin). Peach can be used too.
  • Banana: Banana is optional but I like to use it as it provides the bulk and creaminess to the drink along with the boost of energy needed to kick start my mornings. Use ripe bananas that are naturally sweeter and higher in antioxidants.
  • Seeds: I've used flaxseed which is a great source of omega-3 but you can also use chia seeds and hemp seeds.
  • Milk: I used full-fat milk, but you can use low-fat variations or even almond milk, soy milk, or any kind of choice.
  • Yogurt: I using full-fat yogurt, but low fat or Greek yogurt can be used too.
  • Sweetener: Honey or sugar, agave syrup, or maple syrup or any of choice
  • Nuts: I prefer garnishing my smoothie with sliced almonds but you can even blend in the nuts for that added nutritional boost.

Step by Step Instructions

Wash the nectarine thoroughly and roughly chop it and remove its pit (stone in the center). Peel the banana and roughly slice it too.

In a blender add all the ingredients and blend for a minute or until everything smooth.

That's it, creamy and delicious Nectarine Smoothie is ready. Pour it into your glass and top it up with some chopped almonds for that additional crunch. Enjoy!!

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Use ripe nectarines and bananas. They will be naturally sweeter and you won't need much of honey or sugar.
  • Blend the ingredients for at least a minute in a high-speed blender. If you don't have a high-speed blender, you will need to blend it a little longer to get it nice and smooth.
  • Use frozen fruits for that slushie kind of smoothie.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make smoothie ahead of time?

Smoothies are best served as soon as they are made. As soon as the fruit is blended it starts to lose its nutrients. If you can't drink it straight away, keep it covered in the fridge and consume within 24 hours.

Can you make smoothie vegan?

Yes, you can easily make this smoothie vegan with a few simple swaps. Use plant-based milk and yogurt, and if using sweetener use maple syrup or sugar rather than honey.

Are nectarines and peaches the same?

Nectarines and peaches are very identical summer fruits with the difference of the outer skin. Peaches have a fuzzy skin vs the smooth skin of nectarines. For this recipe, peaches can be used in place of nectarine with or without skin.

Can I use frozen nectarines instead of fresh for smoothie?

Yes, frozen nectarines or peaches can be used in place of fresh.
