Strawberry Banana Smoothie is our go-to breakfast in the hot summers. My kids love it as their after-school snack too!! It's healthy, fulfilling, and tastes like a treat!!

With strawberries in abundance in the markets right now, it is the perfect time to whip up this classic strawberry and banana smoothie recipe.

This Strawberry and banana smoothie is

  • easy and quick
  • healthy and nourishing
  • cool, creamy, and refreshing
  • made with fresh ingredients
  • perfect breakfast
  • great after school snack

A smoothie is a drink made by blending together raw fruit and/or vegetables, with a liquid such as water, fruit juice, or dairy products, (milk and/or yogurt) and sweetened to taste.

It is thicker than fruit juice and creamy consistency as a milkshake but much healthier.

This Strawberry and banana smoothie is one such classic recipe that is so refreshing and perfect for summer!!

5 ingredients and 5 mins are all you need to make a delicious nutritious breakfast for the whole family!

So lets see how to make this easy Strawberry banana smoothie recipe!!

Recipe Ingredients

Strawberry banana smoothie ingredients in white bowls on a wooden tray

Strawberries: I’ve used fresh strawberries since they are in season but frozen work too. Or substitute with other kind of frozen berries that you have on hand.

Banana: I prefer fresh bananas that is slightly ripe yet firm since they are high in antioxidants and naturally sweeter too. Prefer creamier smoothie, use frozen whole or sliced bananas.

Milk: I’ve used whole milk but any type of milk will work for this recipe. Dairy or dairy-free like whole milk, almond milk, oat milk, etc.

Yogurt: This adds extra creaminess and flavor. I prefer using vanilla yogurt for this recipe. Plain or any type of yogurt will work for this recipe. Use greek yogurt for an even thicker and creamier smoothie.

Sweetener: This is optional and can be adjusted to taste. I prefer using Medjool dates for sweetening my smoothies. Honey, maple syrup, or sugar can be used too!

Optional add-ins: These are optional and nice to add (if you have) as they give an additional nutritional boost. I’ve used chia seeds. Flax seeds, hemp seeds, collagen, or protein powders can also be added too!

Please refer to the recipe card for exact measurements of ingredients.

Step by Step Method

Steps for adding and blending ingredients for Strawberry Banana Smoothie

1 to 3 - Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until nice, creamy and smooth!

4 - Serve in a tall glass and enjoy immediately!!

Serving Suggestion

Here are my three favorite ways to serve this easy Strawberry Banana Smoothie!!

As a smoothie - Serve a fresh chilled smoothie, add a straw and strawberry on the side to make it fancy. Super refreshing!!

Smoothie bowl - Make it a slighter thicker consistency by either reducing milk or add more yogurt, or use frozen fruits and serve in a bowl topped with granola, more sliced fruits, nuts, and/or seeds. So delicious!!

Popsicles - Freeze into your favorite popsicle molds and enjoy a delicious treat!!

Recipe Tips

Meal prep: Wash, dry, and pre-portion the strawberries and banana in a freezer-safe ziplock and freeze until ready to use. All you need to do is grab a bag, dump it with milk/yogurt and sweetener and blend!!

Add Greens: It's a great way to add greens to your diet as you barely taste them in a smoothie. Just add a handful of washed kale or spinach.

Amp up the protein - either add your favorite protein powder or go the natural way and add nut butter (almond butter, cashew butter, or peanut butter) or greek yogurt

Amount of liquid: may vary depending on the type of blender. High-powered blenders blend much better, so if you have a regular or personal-size blender, you may need to add more milk/liquid. I've used my Vitamix.

Consistency: The consistency mentioned in this recipe is pourable. If your smoothie seems too thick, add in a bit of extra milk or water.  If it seems too thin, add in more strawberries or bananas.

Discoloration: This smoothie is best served fresh!! Keeping it for longer (even in the fridge) can result in discoloration due to bananas. It may still be ok to drink.

Hi Meena, did you use hot/warm milk? That's the reason it may have... you should use cold milk.
