Fruit Salad is a very simple, easy & quick dessert recipe. My Mom often made this when we were kids and it's been a favorite ever since.

With the festive season kicking in, it's always a good idea to have such a fancy yet quick, no-cook dessert recipe handy.

If you love the no-cooking dessert concept, you must try these two other summer favorite dessert recipes using mango - Mango Kulfi and Mango Shrikhand Recipe (Amrakhand).

This Indian Fruit Salad

  • Requires no cooking
  • Made without custard powder
  • Easy and quick
  • Sweet and delicious
  • Thick and creamy
  • Vegeratrian and glutenfree
  • Crowd pleaser!!

Indian fruit salad is fresh fruits mixed with condensed milk and cream (or milk) and flavored with cardamom. It is my all-time favorite no-cook dessert recipe.

Although it is called fruit salad it is more like a dessert recipe. It's sweet, creamy, luscious, and so delicious!! The best summer dessert!!

It requires no cooking and is super creamy and thick even without the custard powder.

My mom made it with milk instead of cream and that works too just the consistency is more runny than creamy.

It is definitely not the healthiest but hey it has fruits! Also, it's vegetarian and egg-free which makes it crowd-friendly. The best part is, it is always such a hit with kids and adults that it is my go-to summer dessert to bring to BBQ or potluck.

It is also a great way to finish those small portions of fruits left that need to be consumed soon.

So let's see how to make fruits salad with condensed milk and cream.

Recipe Ingredients

Indian fruit salad ingredients on wooden tray

Fruits - I prefer using fresh fruits for this fruit salad. I have used apple, banana, orange, mango, green and red grapes, strawberries, blueberries, and cherries for garnishing. You can use fruits of choice.

Pineapple, pomegranate seeds, kiwi, and chikoo (sapodilla) are other fruits that work well with this recipe.

Heavy whipping cream - I prefer using heavy whipping cream to give it a more creamy and luscious texture.

Condensed milk - I've used sweetened condensed milk this acts as a sweetener as well as helps thicken and bind the salad.

Nuts and dry fruits - I love adding golden raisins and sliced almonds but you can add any nuts (pecans or walnuts) or dry fruits of your choice. They add a nice crunch and chewy texture. To keep it nut-free, you can skip nuts. Coconut flakes would be a nice addition too.

Cardamom powder - I've used cardamom powder for flavor. It is optional and can be skipped or alternatively, vanilla extract can be used too.

Please refer to the recipe card for exact measurements of ingredients.

Step by Step Method

Wash and dry all fruits. Peel (if required) and chop all fruits into bite-size and almost equal pieces.

Steps showing how to make Fruit Salad with Condensed Milk and cream

1 - In a large mixing bowl, add chilled heavy whipping cream and whip until the cream is light and fluffy.

2 - Stir in the condensed milk and cardamom powder and mix until well combined.

3 - Add all the chopped fruits, raisins, and sliced almonds and mix to combine.

4 - Cover and refrigerate at least for 30mins to 2 hours before serving!!

Serve chilled garnished with more fruits, nuts, and cherry on top! Enjoy!

Recipe Tips

Fruits like bananas & apples tend to oxidize (turn brown) when cut and exposed to air, so cut these fruits last and immediately add them to the creamy mixture to prevent them from oxidizing.

If you prefer this salad sweeter, add 1-2 tablespoons of sugar or honey according to taste. The taste is just right for us with just condensed milk.

To keep it lighter, replace cream with milk and skip whipping. The consistency will not be creamy and more on the runny side but still delicious!!

For an even easier version, replace heavy whipping cream with store-bought cool whip. You can add some milk if required to adjust the consistency.

You can change fruits and their quantity as per preference. If you don't like certain fruit skip it or replace it with your favorite fruit.

This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled.

Frequently asked questions

Can we use canned fruits to make this fruit salad?

Yes, canned fruits can be used along with fresh to make this fruit salad. Just make sure to drain the liquid from canned fruits.

Can this fruit salad be made ahead of time?

Yes, you can make this fruit salad ahead of time. Keep it covered and store it in the refrigerator till ready to serve. Leftovers can be stored for 1-2 days and are best eaten at the earliest since the fruits will start to get soggy and not taste fresh.
